SoBRO Theme Based Youth Programs Chosen as Coming Up Taller 2008 Semifinalist!

May 19, 2008

SoBRO’s Youth Programs made it to the top 50 as a semi-finalist for the annual Coming Up Taller awards, competing against 320 programs from 47 states and the District of Columbia. With this distinction, SoBRO will receive a Certificate of Excellence and a listing in the Coming Up Taller awards national publication, along with mentions in the program’s press kits. The final 15 award winners will be announced before the end of June.

The Coming Up Taller Awards recognize and support outstanding community arts and humanities programs that celebrate the creativity of America's young people, provide them learning opportunities and chances to contribute to their communities. These awards focus national attention on exemplary programs currently fostering the creative and intellectual development of America's children and youth through education and practical experience in the arts and the humanities. Accompanied by a cash award, the Coming Up Taller Awards not only reward these projects with recognition but also contribute significant support to their continued work.

The Awards program is a project of the President's Committee on the Arts and the Humanities in partnership with Institute of Museum and Library Services, the National Endowment for the Arts and the National Endowment for the Humanities. It was started in 1998.

So congratulations to the SoBRO Youth Department on their second award this year, and keep your fingers crossed for the final results in June!
