Innovative Environmental Fair at Roosevelt Island
Roosevelt Island, NY - December 12, 2007 - This Saturday, environmental organizations throughout New York City will hold an environmental awareness fair at Roosevelt Island to encourage green living throughout New York.
“Everyone wants to become involved with environmental action, but not everyone knows how to!” says Elyssa Rothe, the Energy $mart Communities Coordinator at SoBRO.” The fair is an attempt to show New Yorkers what they can do to become involved in one of the most pressing issues we face today; environmental efficiency. “Past events have been very successful, so we hope to further the average New Yorker’s environmental education on Saturday, like we have in the past,” says Rothe.
The fair is sponsored by the South Bronx Overall Economic Development Corporation (SoBRO) and the Roosevelt Island Operating Company (RIOC). Participants include NYSERDA, Sierra Club, the Office of Recycling, WE ACT, the Office of Sanitation, an environmental engineer, as well as representatives from the water turbine industry and a green building on the island, the Octagon. The fair is on Saturday from 1pm to 3pm at the Chapel of the Good Shepard, 546 Main Street, Roosevelt Island.
The event targets tenants of Roosevelt Island and citizens of New York, for education on playing a role to improve the environment. With high energy prices and fears of global warming fueling a green movement in the US, people are increasingly eager to do their part. This event is a tool to educate people on the environmental risks in New York, and to provide resources for preventing environmental damage.
