Housing Development
We build attractive, high-quality, affordable apartments that offer residents a pleasant living environment they can feel proud of. Our buildings are energy efficient and built to NYSERDA specifications, making them affordable and environmentally friendly. SoBRO’s housing developments have been instrumental in helping attract further residential and commercial investment into various communities, such as Morrisania and Port Morris.
While much of our effort involves acquiring and renovating existing underutilized residential properties, we also work with the NYC Planning Commission to rezone strictly industrial and commercial areas into mixed-use districts where appropriate. Our rezoning initiatives have allowed for the development of much-needed affordable housing in the Morrisania and Bruckner Boulevard areas and have been vital in our overall efforts to improve the economic and aesthetic landscape in the South Bronx.
To date, we have developed 419 units of affordable and special needs housing, with 249 in development, and 261 in the pre-development phase. Examples of our current projects include:
