JOB TITLE: Part-Time AVENUE NYC, MERCHANT COORDINATOR
PROGRAM OVERVIEW: Avenue NYC grants help commercial districts thrive and provide a vibrant mix of goods and services for residents in low-and moderate-income neighborhoods. The Avenue NYC program is made possible by Community Development Block Grant funding. Engaging merchants is the first step in the commercial revitalization process. The South Bronx Overall Economic Development Corporation (SoBro) has received a merchant organizing grant to lead strategic planning, outreach and organizing efforts to build the Mott Haven 138th Street Merchant Association. The aim is to work towards the creation of a self-sufficient incorporated not-for-profit or business improvement district (BID) that has the capacity to better serve the needs of local residents.
POSITION OVERVIEW: This role will require the individual to support and encourage the process of formalizing the existing merchants association by increasing merchant membership and connecting them to SoBro’s business development and procurement technical assistance programs which provide businesses with access to various financial and business incentives and/or assistance programs. A working knowledge of available services and cross-marketing with multiple SoBro Business Development programs and external service providers is essential. Also, the incumbent is responsible for facilitating for community revitalization projects to attract more business in the corridor.
